Véronique Sanson - "Hollywood" > paintings

A place and at a time that perhaps never existed but in my imagination... But then, why would I have dreamt that, and why would I have kept such memories so alive, if they were false?

Only Mrs Sanson's family has the key to this mystery, the key of this place that they might recognize as I describe it -and of course not exactly as I describe it, probably–, if by chance they remember that their parents occasionally went there... Was that a family apartment, or that of some amongst their parents' friends? I have no idea. Except that it was located on Boulevard Suchet. Perhaps this moment was real, I lived it and it was not my imagination’s fruit ; but if it is a fiction... what a strange dream then, without function or purpose.

Like a Traumnovelle (Dream Story), woven from the same dreams as those from the Arthur Schnitzler’s short story, from which Kubrick drew his last movie Eyes Wide Shut… I shall probably never know.

In the history of my meetings with Mrs Sanson, after this Traumnovelle that I lived for real or dreamt (?), I had no news anymore from the Lady from the 5th Floor. I sent her my Season’s Greetings though, and by early 1977, I finally received a letter from Mrs. Sanson’s secretary.

Soudain un télégramme vient m'annoncer
Que tout est dans le lac
(And suddenly a telegram just informs me
That things are all washed up)

Yes, the project was dead…
And one more time Mrs. Sanson had proved her kindness and her attention, by taking the time to update me with kind words of solace, even though the news were not that I had hoped for.
