Sur La Trace Des Versants Ouest > paintings

As a conclusion, the above is not an exhaustive or thorough analysis of Rickie Lee Jones’s career, but just an overview of "two or three things that I know about her" (to paraphrase the title of Jean-Luc Godard's well-known film).

A profile, surely incomplete and unavoidably partial, however based on the will to do justice to Rickie Lee Jones' approach of freedom and assumed vulnerability. An approach unquestionably nourished by an independant spirit, a mark of a character showing a genuine vulnerability and an heightened fragility. With, as a result, a musical course made of willing and assumed zigzags -all of them wild snubs to routine.

From Rickie Lee Jones and Pirates up to today's outputs, a collection of albums that constitutes a blatant evidence of the artist’s consistent heart and talent. And which maintains Rickie Lee Jones as a permanent UFO, and a major singer-songwriter, musician and performer in the American artistic and musical landscape.

Someone who traced her path on all slopes of existence. The Western ones, those of the "jazz" side of life, as all the others.
Confirming thus that right from her sensational 1979 debut until today, Rickie Lee Jones always was, and remains, a figure of legend with an enormous heart.
