Elton John > Paintings
In the 1970s, we were far from imagining today's mobile phones and especially their extraordinary ability to take pictures, anywhere and under any light. Taking a photo was a job by then, and taking a photo of someone unknown, in the privacy of that person's home moreover, was more or less unthinkable. Because the initiative would have been perceived fot what it was: intrusive, disrespectful, and an evidence
of bad manners.

Thus, in order to fix in my memory the moments and places that seemed important to me, I used to make small sketches after my visits, so that the memory I had of them would not be diluted in vagueness by oblivion.

Regarding proper photos of the place, I have found visual traces of the "Hercules" living room. One below in Bryan Forbes'
beautiful documentary
that the British Director shot in 1973 :
“Elton John & Bernie Taupin Say Goodbye
Norma Jean and Other Things”
.
The other is on next page, in a 1975/1976 vintage book from my archives. In both, one can see the coffee table where stood the “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” copy that Elton John gave me so kindly as a gift, at the end of our interview.
