  • Cent Étoiles

Cent Étoiles (One Hundred Stars) was created for  architect Oscar Niemeyer’s hundred years birthday's celebrations at the Paris' House of Brazil in December 2007.

It was presented during the Cent Étoiles exhibition bringing together paintings inspired by Brasilia and organized by House of Brazil’s Cultural Service.

The canvas depicts the architect in company of Brazil's former president Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira (1902-1976), who had entrusted to Oscar Niemeyer and to urban planner Lúcio Costa Brasilia’s design and edification, inaugurated in 1960.

The painting shows late president Kubitschek’s soul offering one of the stars of the Southern Cross to his old architect friend as a birthday present, on the night of December 15, 2007 in front of the Palace of l'Alvorada.

This, in memory of the Brasilia construction site : on a starry night at the end of the 1950s, Juscelino Kubitschek accompanied by the architect spontaneously exclaimed in front of the Alvorada Palace then almost finished: "How gorgeous!"
